Fawn Sorgi has been the Director of Orchestras and the instructor of AP Music Theory at McKinney High School since 2007. Ms. Sorgi earned a Bachelor of Music Education from West Texas A&M University in 1996. While at WTAMU, Ms. Sorgi was a member of the Symphony Orchestra, Marching Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Opera pit, and the Matilda Gaume Early Music Consort.
Ms. Sorgi was voted Teacher of the Year in the Lewisville ISD for the 2005-2006 school year after being runner up the year before and has been named four times to the Who’s Who Among American Teachers. She is currently the Region 25 Orchestra Division Secretary and has also served as Region 25 Orchestra Division Chair and Region 24 Secretary in addition to acting as the Computer Software Administrator. Ms. Sorgi is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), Texas Orchestra Directors Association (TODA) and the Texas Music Adjudicators Association (TMAA). Ms. Sorgi’s orchestras have consistently received Sweepstakes awards at UIL contests as well as superior ratings and numerous honors at competitions for fifteen consecutive years. For this reason, she is highly sought after as an orchestral judge and clinician across Texas.
Meara O’Neill joined the McKinney High School orchestra family as the Assistant Director of Orchestras in 2015. Ms. O’Neill earned her Bachelors of Music in Music Education from University of North Texas and graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors in 2015. Ms. O’Neill taught private violin and viola lessons for 2 years in San Antonio at Alamo Music Center, in addition to learning the art of orchestral repair. She ran several group classes for beginner violinists and was a lead teacher in the UNT String Project program for 3 years, teaching orchestra to elementary and middle school aged students. During her time at University of North Texas, she was awarded the Dean’s Camerata String Education Scholarship. She completed her student teaching at Plano East Senior High and Otto Middle School in Plano ISD, conducting multiple orchestras that earned Superior ratings at several festivals last spring. Ms. O’Neill is a member of TMEA (Texas Music Educator’s Association), TODA (Texas Orchestra Director’s Association), and Sigma Alpha Iota, the national music fraternity. She has been studying voice and violin since 1999, as well as viola since 2009.
